Dating from about four or five decades after the Ascension (A.D. 75–85), Acts is the earliest conscious attempt to chronicle the history of the fledgling and struggling church. The book is divided mainly between the leadership of Peter in the beginning, and of Paul later on. It also follows the companions of Peter and Paul and their interaction with other apostles when Luke was an eyewitness, or when others told him their stories.
