In addition to his sermons, Jesus is famous for another kind of teaching: the telling of stories with moral points, called parables, the general theme of which is the Kingdom of God and how to attain it. The Gospels record approximately four dozen parables, depending on how you calculate the overlap among the accounts. Several parables also appear in the Sermon on the Mount. Another type of teaching Jesus used, as recorded in the Gospels, is prophecy, which can be described as “foretelling while forth-telling.”
