The Holy City
Revelation Chapters 21 and 22 relate the vision John the Beloved Apostle received on the Isle of Patmos, of Jesus enthroned in the New Jerusalem.
discussion question
How are we to understand “the new creation”?
The new creation in the New Jerusalem far exceeds the new creation that is the mandate all of his disciples are given to work at in this, their meaningful, integrated physical and spiritual lives in their priesthood callings. But rather than brush away the best efforts of his people, he transforms them into the new creation.
“And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new” (Revelation 21:5). From the lowliness of a stable in Bethlehem, Jesus is finally seen in Scripture enthroned over the New Jerusalem. And here we see Him finally, through John's masterful depiction. See Revelation 21:10–27; 22:1–4, the theme of which is, “I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.”
