The raising of Lazarus in Bethany so impressed Jesus' followers and the public that it led to Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem a day or two later, and a week of preaching in the Temple. But both Lazarus' raising and his triumphal entry fueled growing opposition to Jesus among most of the Temple leaders, and culminated in his being arrested on a charge of blasphemy, scourged, and executed on a cross. His enemies used his claim of divinity as proof he blasphemed their God and insulted their religion.
