C'è (there is) and ci sono (there are) are used to indicate the existence of something. C'è, meaning “there is,” is singular, and therefore must be used with a singular subject. Ci sono, or “there are,” is plural, and must be used with a plural subject.

C'è un ospedale qui vicino. There is a hospital close by.

Ci sono molti ospedali a Boston. There are many hospitals in Boston.

Ecco! is used to point out the existence of something in view. It is invariable and can be used with singular or plural nouns.

Non trovo la mia penna! I can't find my pen!

Ecco la penna! Here's the pen!

Dove sono Marco e Maria? Where are Marco and Maria?

Ecco Marco e Maria! Here are Marco and Maria!
