The Irish have made major contributions to world literature and music. Ireland's greatest contribution, however, has been the millions of people who left their island in the hope that they'd find a better life for themselves and their children. Those emigrants' descendants have had a tremendous impact on the politics and cultures of the countries they came to call home.
