Where to Find an Advisor

It's not too difficult to find the right financial advisor, but it may take some time. As in romance and matrimony, finding the right advisor for you can be a real trial-and-error process. If you can, get a referral from a trusted family member or friend with financial holdings similar to yours. Then you'll be starting out with somebody with a proven track record of performance productivity and a reputation for playing well with others.

If that doesn't pan out, try going directly to the organizations and associations that have access to good financial planners. You have several resources at your disposal, including the Financial Planning Association, the National Association of Personal Finance Advisors, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the American Society of Financial Service Professionals, and the International Association of Registered Financial Consultants. Talk to as many professionals as you can until you find the right advisor for you.
