Kiwi Granita

The tropical kiwi packs more punch per bite than most fruits, and thus makes an amazing granita. Consider serving with a drizzle of orange juice or Grand Marnier for an after-dinner treat.

INGREDIENTS | YIELD: 1 QUART

  • 2 pounds kiwis, peeled and chopped
  • 1¼ cups water
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  1. Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender, and purée until very smooth.

  2. Refrigerate until chilled.

  3. Pour into a covered container and place in the freezer for 1 hour.

  4. Remove from freezer, and stir the frozen crystals into the center of the container with a fork.

  5. Return the container to the freezer, and repeat the process every 30–45 minutes, stirring carefully each time, until you have a fully frozen container of crystallized granita.
