Dulce de Leche Ice Cream
The flavor of dulce de leche is very similar to caramel but with a bit more milk and a little less sugar. If you are lucky, you can find cans of dulce de leche on your supermarket shelf, often with sweetened condensed milks, or you can make your own.
INGREDIENTS | YIELD: 1 QUART
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup cream
- 2 (14-ounce) cans dulce de leche
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
In a medium saucepan, bring milk and cream to a boil. Remove from heat and whisk in dulce de leche and vanilla. Refrigerate for 4 hours.
Add to ice cream maker and follow manufacturer's instructions for freezing.
Dulce de Leche
Literally translated in Spanish, dulce de leche means “sweet of milk,” or milk candy. It is prepared by slowly heating sweetened milk to create a product that is sweet and rich, and much like caramel. It is highly popular in Latin cultures.
