Other Self-Hypnosis Tools

If you have a difficult time receiving answers to your questions while in self-hypnosis, you may want to try a couple of other methods. The first is the pendulum technique addressed in Chapter 1. The second is automatic writing. Both methods allow you the opportunity to receive answers to your questions without prior knowledge of the response.

The Pendulum

A pendulum can help you get answers from the unconscious mind without using sensory recall. If you want to try this, draw a circle on a blank sheet of paper and divide it into four sections by adding two lines that cross in the center. Take a deep breath, exhale, feel calm and relaxed, hold your pendulum over the paper, and ask it to show you a yes. It will move either back and forth or from side to side. It will move the other way for no.

If you choose not to draw a circle, just ask the pendulum to show you yes, then ask it to show you no. If there is no answer to your question, ask it not to move at all. Now you are ready to ask questions.

Begin by asking yes-or-no questions about the model that you want to change. You might ask if the negative model began at a certain time. You can use this method to hone in on time sequences, emotions, and other facts regarding your negative model. Through the use of the pendulum you may receive self-hypnotic insights that you would not have gotten otherwise.

Automatic Writing

To try this method, all you need is a piece of paper and something to write with. You may seat yourself at a computer or typewriter instead, wherever you are most comfortable. Place the writing utensil in your hand at the top left-hand corner of the paper, or place your fingers on the keyboard. Take a deep breath, exhale, and let your positive anchors help guide you into a comfortable hypnotic trance that is calm and relaxing.

Suggest to yourself when you enter your trance to let your hand or fingers begin to write. Suggest that the information that comes from your unconscious mind be helpful to you in understanding the negative model you want to change. You may ask that this information give insights that can be used positively in the future.

Once you've reached a comfortable trance level, you can let your mind go where it likes. Your unconscious will work on its own, giving information to your fingers or hand. Be patient, as you may not get much of a response at first. Like other techniques in self-hypnosis, the more you practice, the easier it is to have positive results. After a comfortable amount of time, allow yourself to come back to the surface of your mind, calm and relaxed.

It is possible for some people to enter a deep self-hypnotic trance with the suggestion that automatic writing take place. Music has been written this way, too. Mozart once received a whole symphony that took days to transcribe.

You can use your pendulum regularly for guidance. After determining yes and no, always ask permission to ask your questions. Automatic writing can be used to channel information from the universal mind. Perhaps you'll find a book waiting to come through if you use this method of writing.
