Tips from Homeschool Families

Every “typical day” varies in some way, which is good. Variety breaks up an otherwise dull routine. Flexibility allows for unexpected learning opportunities. Here are some tips from veteran homeschool families:

  • Include fun events or unusual ways of learning to make each day more enjoyable and memorable.

  • Plan special family parties or celebrations every few weeks to commemorate certain milestones or lessons learned.

  • Talk with other homeschool families for inspiration and ideas, and to share your own experiences.

  • Add new, creative activities to each day, such as painting, crafts, photography, playing musical instruments, building projects, or special hobbies.

  • Have the courage to follow your family's own educational goals and beliefs. But also keep an open mind to what works or doesn't work for your family.

  • Don't worry about bad days or bad weeks. We all have them, whether we're homeschooling or not! Just relax, share your experiences with homeschool friends, then start again when everyone is more rested and ready.
