Mixing and mastering are two of the hardest subjects to describe in writing. By its very nature, audio is an art of the ears — not the eyes. If you spend enough time in studios, talk to enough engineers, and read through the important work on the subject, you'll see some similarities in how engineers work and how they mix. But there will never be a substitute for getting your hands dirty and mixing yourself.
