Bedroom Hot Spots
You may have a few hot spots in your bedroom that could be eliminated. Perhaps there is a chair in the corner, intended for reading, that gets heaped with clothing on a regular basis. Consider moving this chair to a different part of the house so that you (and your loved ones) won't be tempted to drop clothing on it at the end of the day. Heaps of clothing will make you feel discouraged and tired, so it is best to remove furniture upon which clothing can accumulate.
If you want a simple way to keep clothing off the floor and furniture, install a row of hooks in your closet. It takes just seconds a day to “hook” your clothes. With hooks, clothes are easy to spot and putting them away no longer feels like a chore. Take care not to overload your hooks and to only place items on them that will not become stretched as a result.
Removing furniture from your room can have a surprising side benefit. Not only will this make it easier to keep things tidy, but a little less furniture can go a long way toward making a small space feel more comfortable. Keep the primary uses of your bedroom in mind as you evaluate your furniture needs. Rarely used exercise equipment should be shown the door, because in addition to creating clutter, it might make you feel guilty every night as you're drifting off to sleep. Everyone feels burdened enough without the additional trigger of a StairMaster beside the bed. Ideally, the last thoughts of the day will be mellow ones, not thoughts like, “I haven't exercised in weeks. Why did I spend good money on that equipment that I never use?” When you're tired, those kinds of thoughts can be overwhelming, and they might make it harder to fall asleep.
