When a westerner hears the word “yoga,” his mind goes immediately to a person locked in meditation, sitting upright, cross-legged, palms upward, likely chanting the sound “Om.” In Hinduism, yoga is a spiritual path, a discipline that leads one to actualize his potential. In other words, it is a means to the end of spiritual enlightenment discussed in our first chapter.
