Career and Education Websites
The following is a sample of the multitude of health care education and career-related websites that provide resources and information. Many also have active forums to post questions and comments.
About.com: About.com has many health guides who are nurses, physicians, dentists, N.D.s, therapists, and other health care professionals. This site provides information about the field, in addition to resources for professionals and laypeople. It also has active forums. In addition to all of the health-related sites, there is one geared specifically to Health Careers as well.
U.S. Department of Labor: The Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010–11 edition, offers statistics and information about many health care careers, including education, salary information, and future outlook.
Healthcare Career Resource Center: This site offers a comprehensive list of health care careers from ORACLE ThinkQuest Education Foundation Library. It has many links to summaries of information about duties, education, salary, and outlook.
WorldWideLearn: This site's Guide to College Majors in Alternative Medicine is an informative discussion of alternative medicine options and the educational preparation needed.
CollegeBoard.org: Information on SAT and ACT college entrance exams as well as links to financial aid and other college entrance information are available.
FAFSA: Access and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application online for financial aid consideration.
Financial Aid: FinAid is one of many sites with information about financial aid.
The GRE: Information on how to prepare for and register to take the Graduate Record Exam can be found at this site.
Fast Company.com — “The Brand Called You”: “The Brand Called You” is an article on Fast Company.com's website by business management guru Tom Peters about considering yourself the CEO of a business called “you.”
Health Literacy Consulting: Helen Osborne, a health literacy expert, discusses the issues involving literacy in health care today. There are links to many articles and resources on this site.
Home Health 101: This site offers practical information for home health professionals.
House-Calls Online: This is a site for home health professionals with links to resources and other home health sites.
Suite101.com: This site has recently undergone a makeover and has a whole section devoted to health. Most of the writers for this section are medical professionals. Kathy Quan writes for the Health Field section, which includes up-to-date career information for health care professionals.
