Magic Dick is best known for his role as harmonica player in the J. Geils Band. In that context and throughout his career Dick has been a force for the modernization of the sound and the role of the harmonica in contemporary music.
Dick was born in New London, Connecticut, in 1945. In 1968 he met John Geils and Danny Klein, and together with them he became a founding member of the J. Geils Blues Band in 1968. The band was together for twelve years and had a highly successful career of recording and performing.
Dick has played harmonica as a sideman for Debbie Harry, Patty Smyth, and the Del Fuegos, among others. He also went on to form a new group, Bluestime, with longtime band member J. Geils. The group continues to perform today.
