Musical notation is the language musicians use to communicate with each other. Over thousands of years notation has evolved into its current forms, which include the standard notation with notes on the staff; music “charts,” which are a stripped down version of standard notation, with the melody on the staff and chord symbols written above; and the specialized shorthand just for harmonicas that is the subject of this chapter — harmonica tablature.
