Minor Chord

Up to this point you've been reading about the minor chord and its many structures, now you'll try a few chords. The minor chord has a sad or bluesy quality to it. FIGURES 7-14 through 7-16 show three minor chords: A minor, E minor, and D minor. The song “Drunken Sailor” (shown in FIGURE 7-17 and recorded on Track 33 of this book's CD) uses a variety of these minor chords.

Drunken Sailor

What shall we do with the drunken sailor?

What shall we do with the drunken sailor?

What shall we do with the drunken sailor?

Earl-eye in the morning

Wey, Hey and up she rises,

Wey, Hey and up she rises,

Wey, Hey and up she rises,

Earl-eye in the morning

FIGURES 7-18 and 7-19 show a couple more songs using these minor chords. Listen to these songs on Tracks 34 and 35 of this book's CD.
