Orbs and Meditation

The appearance of orbs seems to relate not only to atmospheric and electrical conditions, but also to human intention. Researchers Kris and Ed Sherwood have conducted guided meditations specifically designed to connect with the energies of the orbs. They have conducted these light-ball visualizations at sacred sites and in crop circle formations around the English countryside.

The Sherwoods have been remarkably consistent in sighting orbs. Ed has taken digital photographs while Kris has been meditating, and the resulting photos sometimes show hundreds of orbs, many of them bright and well defined. In some cases, motion blurs suggest the orbs are moving faster than the shutter speed of the camera. In other pictures, very luminous objects appear to be hovering above peoples' heads. The results were particularly noticeable inside crop circle formations. Kris Sherwood concluded, “The genuine crop circle phenomenon has demonstrated its ability to be psycho-interactive with those giving their attention to it.”

Human-created crop formations have been documented by a number of different groups of circle makers since 1978. This has been interpreted in some media reports to mean that all crop formations are hoaxes, deliberately created to fool people into thinking they are some kind of supernatural phenomenon. This ignores the fact that readings taken in crop formations of unknown origin have consistently shown marked differences from readings taken in crop formations of known human origin.

What are crop circles?

The term crop circles, also known as crop formations, was first coined by researcher Colin Andrews to describe patterns created by the flattening of cereal crops such as wheat, barley, rapeseed, rye, and corn. These often take the form of intricate geometric patterns. The majority of crop circles recorded in the last twenty years have appeared in the west of England.

It also does not take into account the reports of many human circle makers, allegedly responsible for the “hoax” crop formations, who say they have often witnessed anomalous lights and floating luminous orbs in fields they were working in. This has led to the speculation that crop formations may be an interactive phenomenon and that human circle makers can attract the attention of the genuine circle makers with their activity. It may be possible that a form of communication between the symbology of art and circle-making activities may be occurring in these cases.

In August 1996, a video showed a number of balls of light hovering over a field, apparently causing a crop formation underneath them. The video later turned out to be a hoax, created by a video editor who happened to spot the crop formation when it was freshly created and used computer animation to create the orbs.

It is estimated that between 10 percent and 80 percent of crop circles are manmade. Even researchers who think it is at the higher end of that scale admit there is no way to tell how formations were constructed in at least 20 percent of formations. These remain resolutely mysterious, and some other form of explanation is needed.
