Years ago, deciding on the invitation wording was a simple task. The bride's parents paid for the whole wedding, and so there was no question about who was doing the inviting. Now, of course, couples often pay for their own weddings, and/or both sets of parents chip in for the expense. Add stepparents to the mix, and you might just be thinking about forgetting the whole invitation thing and relying on word of mouth. Plenty of people will show up when they hear about it on the street, right?
