Groomsmen or Scapegoats?

Your friends are the greatest. They've planned an unbelievable bachelor party for you. It's going to be out of control, and since it's your last hurrah as a single guy, you deserve it. Besides, you can blame them for anything your fiancée gets mad about. You've got life by the tail, don't you?

Owning Up

Coming home inebriated from your bachelor party is probably the least your bride is expecting. Don't try to tell her your friends poured the alcohol down your throat. Don't tell her you weren't smoking when it's clear that you were. And don't tell her that you didn't have any fun at all without her. She's going to wonder what else you're lying about.

Scapegoats Serve a Limited Purpose

Your bride is going to hold you accountable for certain behaviors, whether you try to place the blame on your friends, and whether your friends try to tell her it was their fault. If you come home from your bachelor party covered in hickies, you can pretty much forget shifting the blame. That's all on you.

It's not the worst thing in the world to blame your pals for the excessive drinking; it may even be true to some extent. And the fact that you were unable to leave the strip joint until the dawn started breaking — because the other guys refused to go — might also be mostly true.

Blaming your friends for the fact that you had your hands all over another woman at your bachelor party isn't going to fly with your fiancée (if she catches wind of it — which she will). This might be something your friends have all done; maybe it's commonplace in your family. It shouldn't be, and if your bachelor party dreams are all wrapped up in visions of one last conquest, you probably shouldn't be getting married.
