Vintage Favors
To keep up with the theme of your vintage wedding, you may want to incorporate little vintage accessories as eco-fabulous favors. If you want to go for an authentic favor for your era, think cake boxes. For the first half of the twentieth century the most common favor at a wedding was the cake box. Each guest was sent home with a slice of cake or a mini cake in a pretty decorated box. Today you can often find plain cake boxes, and you can decorate them yourself. If you want to offer your guests something more than a prettily packaged slice of cake, look for anything that can be purchased in large quantities at flea markets, thrift stores, antique shops, or even on the web.
You might be able to find costume jewelry pieces, hatpins, hair pins or clips, cuff links, tie tacks, buttons, or vintage hankies. Vintage ornaments would be wonderful for a winter wedding around the holidays. Books — especially old poetry books — are a creative choice. Put a custom label on the inside of each book to thank your guests for attending. The books could even be grouped together in the center of the table for an unusual center-piece. Other vintage favor ideas might be old cosmetic compacts, business card holders, and other small trinkets that are commonly found in antique shops.
Search through your old family photo albums for vintage wedding photos. It would be a wonderfully personal touch to incorporate vintage wedding memories from your own family into your big day. Go through the photos with your older relatives, and ask them questions about their own weddings.
If you only have a few photos, postcards, or other vintage ephemera, try copying them onto recycled paper or card stock and use the images to make tags or bookmarks. The images could even be used on your invitations. You can also look into downloading vintage photos and other images from the web and printing them out for your paper décor and favors. Use scraps of vintage fabric, lace, ribbons, and even old wallpaper to make bookmarks. For a romantic Victorian theme wedding, Victorian teacups, valentines, or postcards are very decorative. You can fill old bottles or jars with candy, bath salts, or oils. Take a stroll through your local flea markets, antique stores, and thrift shops to get ideas for unique favor ideas.
