Wedding favors began centuries ago. Rich European aristocrats would show off their wealth by offering opulent gifts to wedding guests. The extravagant gifts were originally small, fancy boxes, known as bonbonnières in France and bombonieres in Italy. They were often made of porcelain, crystal, or gold and encrusted with precious gemstones. Contained inside the box was a bonbon or other sugary treat. Today wedding favors are a multimillion-dollar industry all by themselves. Choose eco-wisely and hopefully your favors will be the treasured gifts they were meant to be.
