Hair Care
Many companies that produce organic skin-care products also carry hair-care products. A benefit of organic shampoos and hair care products is the absence of synthetic surfactants. These chemicals can persist through wastewater treatment plants and septic systems to end up in ground and surface water.
Here are a few companies that sell their own lines of environmentally friendly hair care products:
Terressentials (www.terressentials.com) was selected as a top product in 2004 by The Green Guide. Their products are 100 percent natural and chemical-free. There's no detergent or synthetic fragrances in these shampoos.
J. P. Durga (www.jpdurga.com) offers all-natural, chemical- and petroleum-free hair-care products. Their message is “healing humanity one body at a time.” The company is careful to maintain proper temperatures while they're making their products to ensure that natural ingredients are able to maintain their benefits.
Aubrey Organics (www.aubrey-organics.com) was started more than forty years ago when Aubrey Hampton developed his natural hair-care product line. After finding success in Manhattan salons, Aubrey expanded the line. Aubrey Organics also includes hair spray and other styling products to help perfect a manageable do.
California Baby (www.californiababy.com) offers a selection of natural and organic hair-care and other products for babies, kids, and adults with sensitive skin. The business was started by Jessica Iclisoy, who was concerned about putting chemicals on her baby boy's noggin.
Prices for organic and all-natural hair-care products may be a little higher than for traditional products, but they are comparable to products sold in hair salons. Look for organic and natural hair-care products at the grocery store or the local whole-food grocer.
