Baby Tubs
A bath is a great way to get your baby clean and help him relax and play. But until your baby is able to sit up on his own (at about six months) you will need to make sure his bathing environment is one that allows him to relax in the tub safely while laying down. To do this, you will have a few options. You can get in the tub with your baby. This can be a fun bonding experience for both you and your baby; however it may not be practical for you to hop in the tub whenever your baby needs a quick wash.
Another option is to hold your baby securely in your arms while you bath him. While this sounds ideal, it can be stressful and dangerous to hold a wiggly, wet, slippery baby in one arm while trying to wash him with the other. Not to mention the strain this positioning will place on your back.
A better bet is to get an infant bath tub that is designed to help you wash and play with your baby safely in the bath tub.
One green perk of the infant bath tub is that is allows you to use less water to bathe your baby than you would if you had to fill up your adultsized tub. As with other types of baby gear it is best to look for a used infant bath tub from a friend or family member. If all else fails, baby tubs are usually plentiful (and inexpensive) at thrift stores and yard sales.
