Steer Clear of Bacteria
There are certain types of microscopic bacteria that can be harmful to pregnant women their babies. Listeria is a bacteria that is occasionally found in soft cheeses like brie, camembert, feta, and queso fresco; in deli meats and cheeses; in processed meats (like hot dogs, meat spreads, and pate); in smoked seafood; and in raw or unpasteurized milk. Although most people can safely be exposed to Listeria without experiencing a problem, pregnant women are ten times more likely to get sick from the same exposure. To be safe, avoid any of the foods that could be contaminated with the bacteria.
