Decorations

You don't need a lot of fussy decorations at this party. Remember, the guest of honor will more than likely tear, chew, or play with any decorations you decide to use.

Keep it simple and natural by skipping the wasteful paper and plastic decorations that will fill up your trash can once the party is over. Be resourceful and use things you already have in original ways. You will save money and time, reduce waste, and have unique and unexpected decorations that your guests (the guest-of-honor included) are sure to love.

According to SAFE Kids USA, children under age eight can choke or suffocate on uninflated or broken balloons. Balloons that are accidentally released into the environment are also dangerous to the animals, birds, fish, and reptiles that may mistake them for food. If you must use balloons, keep them out of reach of children and discard them immediately after use.

Natural Decor

Decorate with natural items from your backyard such as plants, flowers, and pine cones. Steer clear of sharp items or choking hazards such as small rocks, pointed sticks, or thorned stems that could be harmful to your baby to touch.

Reusables

Look around your house or hit the thrift store for reusable decorations such as pillows, scarves, and other fabrics that will add festivity to the party space and serve as fun toys for the children to play with.

Pictures

Select a number of pictures and mementos from your baby's past year. Tape them onto sheets of recycled construction paper to frame them; then tape the pictures on the walls in chronological sequence.
