The word intimacy comes from the Latin intimatus, meaning to make something known to someone else. When you make yourself known to someone else, you are contributing to deeper intimacy. Intimacy isn't about doing things and going places together as much as it's about being together. Close experiences, relying on each other, talking, and sharing hurts and frustrations — that's intimacy. Revealing yourself (both literally and figuratively) can strengthen your sexual and romantic bond. An intimate sexual relationship is both a journey to know your partner and a journey to know yourself.
