Range of Services

Grant writers don't have to limit themselves to grant writing. There's an array of services that you can offer clients that complement the actual writing of proposals. These can include such things as designing programs, planning and facilitating meetings, negotiating collaborations, searching for grant sources, writing media releases and packets, planning marketing strategies, and developing other written materials such as progress or evaluation reports. And don't forget, there's always a need for ongoing consulting and advising your client.

Another thing to consider: Grant writers who have established a solid reputation in their communities may find themselves called upon to review proposals written by new writers. That gives them an opportunity to be an editor and mentor to those entering the field. Local foundations may also call on an established grant writer to review proposals before the director presents them to their board of decision-makers.
