Usually, the first section of a grant proposal, the statement of need — also called a “case statement” or a “problem statement” — is your chance to introduce your organization and community to the proposal judges. Most often, federal grants are awarded to communities where the need is greatest. In the case of foundations, grants are most often successful when they clearly outline a social or community problem and propose a creative, workable solution. Either audience needs strong data to support the problem or need statement.
