Management Plans
The narrative describing management plans should center on the project rather than the entire organization. Do include, however, an overview of the organization and demonstrate where the proposed project fits into its mission and management structure. Illustrate reporting channels with graphs or organizational charts. Describe who is accountable for what aspect of the programming, and be sure to include a statement about fiscal accountability as a part of the management plan.
Let's look at a sample management plan. The following plan to improve and restructure a high school outlines the roles and duties of various personnel and administrators who will enable the district to meet its goals and objectives.
The high school principal will provide leadership in the high school community by building and maintaining a vision, direction, and focus for student learning. He will foster an atmosphere that encourages teachers to take risks to meet the needs of students. The superintendent and other administrators, with schoolboard members, will exercise leadership in supporting the planning, implementation, and long-range momentum of improvement at the school level. Teachers will provide the leadership essential to the success of reform, collaborating with others in the educational community to redefine the role of the teacher and to identify sources of support for that redefined role.
Planning and implementation for the high school restructuring improvement is under the leadership of sixteen committees composed of community representatives, out-district educators, teachers, parents, students, and administrators. Each larger grouping of committees (such as “school environment” or “assessment/accountability”) has selected one of its committees to participate with a leader to consider requirements for accreditation.
Ultimately, district administrators and the high school principal will be responsible for ensuring the success of the restructuring and its outcomes for student learning. However, the team approach ensures that staff, students, and community are responsible for the success of this effort.
