No one can deny that Latin isn't what it used to be — the language of the Roman Republic and later the Roman Empire, as well as the preferred language of medieval scholars and the Catholic Church. Nowadays, though, Latin is no longer a native language in any country; in fact, probably the only place you'll hear “Salve” (a common Latin greeting) is in a scholarly setting. But that doesn't mean that Latin is dead; in fact, it's all around us.
