Golden Retrievers are normally sweet and friendly dogs with moderate confidence levels. A healthy, active Golden Retriever will be eager to explore the world as well as the people and animals around him. Some Goldens, however, whether through an accident of genetics or poor socialization, are not so outgoing or ready for life. These Goldens can be afraid of new people, new situations, loud noises, and chaotic situations. No definite conclusions can be drawn from genetics or environment alone, but many people believe that fear-based problems result from a combination of the two.
