The Gospel of Thomas is what is known as a “sayings gospel.” It is a text of hidden or secret sayings of Jesus as recorded by Didymos Judas Thomas the Twin. The gospel makes a bold proclamation: if the interpretations of the sayings are properly understood, they provide salvation. This gospel, unlike others in the New Testament canon and apocrypha, does not narrate incidents in Jesus' life and ministry, culminating in his death and resurrection, but instead provides 114 loosely grouped sayings attributed to Jesus.
