Unexplained Infertility

Even with all the testing that is available to couples today, there will be cases where doctors cannot determine the source of the infertility. The numbers for unexplained infertility vary widely, but many couples will suffer from a source of infertility that we cannot explain. If you have been given a diagnosis of unexplained infertility, you may feel like nothing can be done to help you. This is not true.

While the cause of your infertility is not known, many practitioners will begin treatments from the basics. By attempting the lower level types of fertility treatments and advancing toward the higher end of the scale in complexity, you will certainly be given every chance of conceiving. You may or may not agree with this approach. You certainly do not have to do any further testing or treatment. In fact, some couples opt to continue trying to conceive naturally or opt for other methods of creating a family.

Testing for the cause of your fertility can be as simple as a blood or semen analysis or as complex as surgery. No matter where you fall in this scale of fertility testing, it's always a good idea to know what steps are involved in testing. Be sure to ask all the questions that you need to ask to feel comfortable with the tests that are being performed. Having the informed consent and knowledge allows you to feel more comfortable and confident in your decisions to achieve a pregnancy.
