Cervical Mucous

Cervical mucous is designed to encourage pregnancy. It is the perfect medium for helping sperm travel toward the egg. As the mucous guides the sperm, it helps nourish it along the way. When there are problems with the quality or quantity of this cervical mucous, the sperm will be impeded in its travel toward your eggs.

Testing your cervical mucous is part of your symptom charting that accompanies the basal body temperature charting. If you did not do this in prior cycles, you will be asked to note amounts of cervical mucous, timing during your cycle, consistency of mucous, and anything else you notice about the mucous. Simply being aware of changes in your cervical mucous can help you in finding the appropriate time for trying to conceive.

If you report issues with your cervical mucous, such as having mucous that is incredibly thick, you may be having problems with your cervical mucous. Your fertility team will investigate this further and treat it appropriately.
