Uterine Repair
Causes of infertility that affect the uterus can benefit from uterine repair. For instance, you may have been born with a birth defect or other problem like a uterine septum, a small wall that divides part of your uterus, which can get in the way of an implanting egg. Surgery to remove the septum can increase your chances of maintaining or achieving pregnancy.
The repair of a uterine anomaly or septum can be done using a hysteroscopy or other type of surgery. Your doctor will help you determine which one will cause you the least amount of pain and trouble, while allowing you the best outcome. Sometimes the hysteroscopy can be used to diagnose the septum.
Some uterine septums actually create two separate sections of a uterus, with either one or two cervixes. It is also possible to have a wall dividing your uterus in half. Treatment options for this depend upon the thickness of this wall and its length. Surgery can help you achieve a higher level of fertility.
Septums have also been known to cause late pregnancy loss or preterm birth, so surgery may increase your chances of carrying a pregnancy to term.
