The Endocrine System
Problems with your endocrine or hormonal system can cause you to have problems conceiving. Hormonal imbalances can cause your periods to stop or prevent you from ovulating, both of which are required parts of the conception process. Usually these types of problems are tested for quite easily with blood tests.
HyperprolactinemiaThis is a problem with an excessive amount of prolactin. The prolactin effects your ability to ovulate and menstruate normally, making it difficult for you to conceive. You may or may not notice symptoms of hyperprolactinemia, like galactorrhea, leaking milk from your breasts. If you do notice this symptom, talk to your doctor immediately.
ThyroidThyroid issues are very important as every little hormone helps relay directions on how your body is run to the next hormone. If you produce too little of certain thyroid hormones, you are likely to have trouble with anovulation. This is tested for at a basic level both as a fertility and general medical issue.
Your thyroid hormones are very important to your general well-being. If you do have thyroid problems it is imperative to regulate them prior to achieving pregnancy. If your thyroid is still off kilter during pregnancy, your baby may suffer serious damage as a result. For more information, check out
