Home, Sweet Home
What if you decide that for financial or other reasons the best place to go on vacation this year is home? For parents who work outside of the home a lot, this is the perfect option. After all, for these parents, being home for a week can be a real novelty.
But can it be fun for baby, too? Sure it can, if you plan it right. Start off with some quality time with baby, and then do some things that are out of your ordinary routine. For instance, pretend you're a tourist in your own area — visit the area zoo, museums, restaurants, specialty shops, and so forth. Sometimes people ignore great things just because they're in their own backyards.
Take a Day Off — Together
You might consider getting a babysitter for a day so that you and your partner can get reacquainted. This will also give you a little break from baby, which is necessary every once in a while. Or spend a night at a friend's house — or at Grandma's — with baby. Lots of people would love to have you (and especially baby) come for an overnight visit.
Spending an adventuresome day outside can be another great way to take some time off as a family. Pack a picnic and go to the park for a day of hiking and exploration. Parks are a perfect choice for a day-long excursion because babies love to see lots of people, animals, and nature. Most parks have walking trails, rest areas, and even swings and a play area for babies. Take baby to the duck pond to feed the ducks; baby will love it, and you'll get some terrific pictures — and memories — to share later.
