A Cry for Attention

Sometimes a baby cries for no apparent reason. She simply is awake, can't go back to sleep, and wants to be held or for you to pay attention to her. You can try holding her, cuddling her, rocking her, or singing to her. But if you want to try putting her back into her crib by herself, offer her one of these:

  • A “blankie” (soft, cuddly blanket she can hold)

  • A warm blanket

  • A “lovey” (soft, cuddly toy)

  • A pacifier (or “binky”)

She may go back to sleep or at least remain quiet though awake for a while. After all, it's not important that she sleeps at that moment, as long as you and the rest of your family can get your sleep.

Alert!

Never warm a blanket by placing it on a radiator or in the microwave. It creates a fire hazard, as well as posing a danger to your baby if the blanket develops hot spots, especially when warmed in the microwave.
