This party game can be played by any number of players, but between ten and thirty players make for the best game.

Choose one player to be the cat and another to be the rat. The rest of the players join hands and form a ring, with the cat on the outside and the rat in the center. The cat then tries to catch the rat. The players favor the rat, and allow him to run in and out of the circle under their clasped hands. They try to prevent the cat from catching the rat by lowering or raising their hands, whichever is necessary. When the rat is caught, he joins the circle; the cat becomes rat, and chooses a new cat from the players.
