Each player stands on one side of the pole. The object of the game is for each player to wrap the ball around the pole by keeping the ball moving one way. The opponent tries simultaneously to block the ball and move it the other way. It does not matter whether you prefer to hit the ball in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion.

The setup for tetherball

Players move the ball by hitting it with their hands. The players decide before the beginning of the game whether the ball can be hit with two hands or one. The winner of the game is the one who wraps the ball around the pole the most times during an agreed-upon period.
