If you've read other chapters in this book, you've probably seen ne…pas used to make negative statements. It is equivalent to the English “not”; it is probably the most common negative expression you will encounter. Naturally, there are more. Ne is almost always a part of the construction, but other words can be used in place of pas to create negative expressions.
