Plants have families that are named and classified in groups based on anatomical parts, generally the characteristics of the flowers or fruits. In the plant world, this is called taxonomy. Even though members of one family may have similar characteristics, they don't all share the same edibility properties. Members of one family may be very toxic while others are considered safe to eat. In some families, all members are edible. When learning plants, it's important to get to know the individual plants within a family.
