Eat dark-colored fruits for plenty of anthocyanins. Try tart cherries, blackberries, blueberries, red grapes, and red plums. Cherries and berries make flavorful and healthy smoothies, and can easily be used to top cereals or salads. Enjoy plums and grapes as a snack, or chop and mix them into your summer drinks such as sangria or a nonalcoholic version made with juices.

Curcumin is found in the spice turmeric. Turmeric is used in yellow mustard and curry powders. Use yellow mustard as a condiment for sandwiches or in homemade dips and salad dressings. Add turmeric or curry to your spice rubs for beef, chicken, or fish.

In 2007 several studies described the positive effects of anthocyanins. In one study, black raspberries, which contain the highest amounts of anthocyanins, inhibited cancer in rat esophaguses by 30 to 60 percent and colon cancer by 80 percent. It was discovered that the black raspberries not only stalled the growth of cancer cells but also accelerated the cell turnover, causing the cancer cells to die faster.
