Taco Seasoning Mix

Many Mexican and Tex-Mex recipes call for Taco Seasoning Mix. But commercial varieties often have wheat flour, MSG, and other additives. This pure mix is spicy and delicious, and it will thicken sauces.

INGREDIENTS | YIELDS 8 tablespoons

  • 3 tablespoons Chili Powder
  • 2 tablespoons minced dried onion
  • 1 tablespoon minced dried garlic
  • 2 tablespoons potato-starch or superfine rice flour
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • ½ teaspoon dried marjoram leaves
  • ½ teaspoon crushed, dried red-pepper flakes
  1. Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and blend well with wire whisk.

  2. Place in small glass jar with screw-top lid and seal.

  3. Store in a cool, dry place out of sunlight. Two tablespoons is equivalent to 1 package commercial seasoning mix.

Taco Seasoning Mix

Taco seasoning mix is usually added to tomato sauce when making filling for tacos, tostadas, or enchiladas. One commercial packet is equal to about 2 tablespoons of homemade mix. You can also add it to browned ground beef along with ½ cup of water to make an easy burrito or taco filling.
