Chocolate Bar Fondue
The caramel flavor in Mars bars combines nicely with tart apple. For a more adult version, add 1 tablespoon of Kahlua or kirsch to the melted chocolate before serving.
INGREDIENTS | SERVES 4
- 6 apples
- ½ cup whipping cream
- 4 regular-sized Mars bars
Wash the apples, pat dry, and cut into 6 slices each. Refrigerate until ready to use in the fondue.
Unwrap the chocolate bars and cut into several pieces.
Combine a few pieces of the chocolate with the whipping cream in a metal bowl and place on top of a saucepan half-filled with simmering water. Stir frequently on low heat, making sure the mixture doesn't come to a boil. Continue adding more chocolate, a few pieces at a time, until all the chocolate is melted.
Transfer the mixture to the fondue pot and set on the burner. Keep the fondue warm on low heat.
Serve with the apple slices for dipping. (This recipe produces 1 cup of chocolate fondue.)
Turn Your Favorite Chocolate Bar into a Fondue
It's easy! Just break the chocolate bar into several pieces, combine with cream, and melt in a metal bowl placed over a saucepan half-filled with barely simmering water. Start with a small amount of cream and add more if needed. (It takes about 2 tablespoons to melt each chocolate bar, depending on the exact size of the bar and the specific ingredients.) Be sure not to let the chocolate boil. For best results, stick with one or possibly two chocolate bar brands.
