Sweet and Crispy Cream Cheese Dumplings
Serves 6
For an extra flourish, drop ½ teaspoon of your favorite cherry jam or orange marmalade into each dumpling.
Lay wonton wrappers on a clean, flat surface. In a food processor, combine cream cheese, cream, 4 tablespoons confectioners' sugar, and vanilla. Pulse until smooth.
Place a generous teaspoon of cream cheese in the center of each wonton wrapper. Brush edges with egg white mixture and fold wrapper on the diagonal. Press to seal edges.
Pour vegetable oil about 3 inches deep in a heavy pot. Heat oil until a drop of water skips across the surface. Drop dumplings into oil a few at a time and fry until golden. Remove to a plate lined with paper towels and sprinkle with confectioners' sugar. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
