Areel can be as simple as a handle on a line-filled spool or as complicated as a delicate machine that spins as smooth as silk. They all have similarities, though. They all provide a place for the line to be stored, a method for storing the line until you want to release it, and a way to wind it back in. Most have some kind of drag system, too.
