Game Fish

Game fish are sought after for their fighting abilities. Smallmouth bass in fresh water, snook in coastal waters, and sailfish offshore are good examples of game fish. These fish will fight hard when hooked and give you a thrill while fighting them. They are a challenge to land when hooked.

Any fish that can be caught on rod and reel is considered a game fish by record-keeping organizations, but everyday fishermen don't see them that way. Game fish are considered the ones most desirable to catch and the ones you are most likely to brag about.

Most game fish are normally released so fishermen can enjoy their fight again. They're handled carefully and unhooked as gently as possible.

You may be ostracized if you keep them to eat or even to mount as a trophy. When choosing a fish to pursue, remember this point if the opinion of other fishermen makes a difference to you.
